The Vimsottari dasha system divides your life into planetary periods (mahadashas), each subdivided into antardashas. How Vimsottari periods work

The sequence and the balance of your first period are set by the nakshatra your Moon occupied at birth. The nine mahadashas then run in a fixed order, each lasting a classical number of years (Venus 20, Saturn 19, Rahu 18, Mercury 17, Jupiter 16, Moon 10, Mars 7, Ketu 7, Sun 6).
